Test the job before drawing stages

A job is ready to map when you can answer four questions:

  • What event or material starts the work?
  • What artifact should exist when the work finishes?
  • Which decisions can change the result?
  • Which missing facts should stop or redirect the process?

If those answers change every time, the job needs a narrower boundary. A workflow diagram cannot repair an unstable objective.

Use a small map with explicit transitions
